What We Solve

  • The Strategy-Execution Gap

Bridging the divide between high-level policy and on-the-ground reality with technical advisory and evidence-based tools.

  • Contextual Misalignment Gap

Ensuring global best practices are adapted, not adopted, to fit your unique regulatory, cultural, and economic environment.

  • Lagging Sustainability Gap

Fast-tracking green transitions (Decarbonization & Electrification) without sacrificing service quality or financial resilience.

Origin Story

Hong Kong stands alone as the world’s only profitable public transport network, serving over 11 million daily passengers with a staggering 90% ridership rate. This global benchmark is the result of decades of integrated Transit-Oriented Development (TOD) and extreme operational efficiency.

However, this success was not instantaneous. In the 1970s, Hong Kong faced the same daunting hurdles many cities grapple with today: soaring infrastructure costs, lack of informal transport regulation, contested land acquisition, and deep public skepticism toward emerging transit models. The turning point was not just technology, but visionary governance and incremental reforms that transformed a fragmented landscape of informal transport into a regulated, world-class multimodal network.

The launch of the Mass Transit in 1979 proved that sustainable mobility is possible when global expertise is adapted to local realities. GST’s partners were instrumental in this evolution. Today, we are dedicated to supporting cities in navigating similar transitions. We combine Hong Kong’s hard-won expertise in TOD, network optimization, stakeholder engagement, green transformation and digital transformation with a deep respect for local contexts, whether working with informal transport operators, optimizing high-demand corridors for mass transit solutions, or aligning infrastructure with commercial and community needs.

Our Leadership

DR. YI GUO

DR. YI GUO

CEO

Dr. YI Guo has extensive experience in international transportation projects. The projects he has managed span 10 countries, including the public transportation transformation in Abu Dhabi, UAE, the Dubai Metro Blue Line Project, and the planning, construction, and operation of the mass transit system in the Middle East. Particularly in Africa, he participated in the planning, construction, and operation of the Addis Ababa Light Rail in Ethiopia: the first mass transit line in sub-Saharan Africa, as well as the planning of BRT systems. He was also involved in the planning, construction, and operation of the Lagos Blue Line in Nigeria, the first mass transit line in West Africa. In North Africa, he led the planning of the 10th Rabadan Suburban Railway Project in Cairo, Egypt, and the ART/BRT planning for the new capital. Dr. YI Guo also boasts rich experience in TOD development and planning. He has participated in numerous TOD projects in Shenzhen and Hong Kong, as well as numerous feasibility studies globally. He is passionate about knowledge dissemination and enthusiastically shares his expertise with all GST clients. In Ethiopia, for example, he served as a lecturer at Addis Ababa University, training over 2,000 local technical personnel. This has provided local students with more opportunities to participate in urban transportation development and helped cultivate professional talents for the region.

Hind Ourahou

GM, Africa and Middle East

With over a decade of design thinking practice, effective project leadership, and a global perspective spanning Africa, the Middle East, and North America, Hind brings a different approach to solving persistent and systemic transportation challenges. Hind’s 10 year experience is forged at the intersection of strategy and execution. She has coached over 15 C-suite executives at General Motors Headquarters on creative execution, advised Mayor Mike Duggan of Detroit, Michigan, on mobility innovation (including micromobility, microtransit, and autonomous vehicles), and guided Abu Dhabi’s Integrated Transport Center through its operational and contractual model transition. Now, as General Manager of GST Africa and the Middle East, she transforms these insights into tangible impact, shaping policies, optimizing teams, and empowering communities. Hind’s work remains guided by the foundational philosophy that designing a mobility experience anywhere is an exercise in empathy, where the thorough examination of behaviors and spaces allows us to see beyond binary answers to systemic mobility challenges.
